Agricultural Economics research in this office includes the economics of production systems, marketing studies, and investigating the value of new opportunities. Current research has included the economics of soft-covered dairy barns, the economics of robotic milking systems and the economics of transitioning dairy cattle to organic production. I have looked at the value of the forage industry in Ontario, the value of longevity in dairy cattle, and valued the market opportunity of new products such as a treatment for e-coli in cattle. New opportunities include economic research in alternative fuels and energy use on the farm, and documenting the economics of alternative marketing venues for on-farm value adding.
