Kerstin Blaeske, Instructor, Kemptville Campus

Agriculture - Equine Diploma

Hi, my name is Kerstin Blaeske and I am an Equine Canada Coach 3 specializing in Dressage.

I was born in Germany and started riding at the age of ten. As a junior, young rider and adult I was an active competitor in Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing. I was lucky to work with some excellent German professional coaches and at the age of 18 I decided to follow in their footsteps. At this time only a small number of girls attempted a professional career in the horse industry.

After several years of apprenticeship with a Master Coach, I successfully completed my exams at the German Riding Academy in Warendorf.

In 1984 my family and I immigrated to Canada. Since then I have been competing at the national horse shows from Basic to Grand Prix level, mainly on horses I bred and trained myself. In addition, I have coached many competitive riders at all levels. Two of my horses were long listed for the Canadian Equestrian team and my students consistently compete with much success.

Coaching has always been my very special interest. I am involved with the Canadian Coaching system as a Course Conductor and Examiner for Coach 1 and 2. Also for several years I was Master Course Conductor for Ontario. Coaching at the Pan AM Games in Indianapolis was probably one of my highlights as a coach.

Now my husband and I run Graystone Equestrian Centre just outside of Ottawa where we breed and train horses mainly for the competitive rider, and board a limited number of horses.

Most of my time however is spent with the Equine program at Kemptville Campus. I am very excited to be part of the teaching staff and work with such a great variety of young equestrians from all over the country.

Have a great year!
