The following is the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) that the University of Guelph and Kemptville Campus requires that you abide by. Anyone reported breaking the terms and conditions of the attached policy will be dealt with in accordance with the COMPLAINT AND VIOLATION RESOLUTION PROCESS.

This policy applies to all users, internal or external, network administrators and service providers of all University computing and networking facilities. Users shall abide by the policy on using their computer account and will be responsible for all uses of the account.
The acceptable use of the University, Kemptville Campus computing and networking facilities is in support of research, instructional, administrative and other intellectual pursuits consistent with the University of Guelph's aims and objectives. Use for personal purposes is permitted to encourage the students, staff and faculty to explore information technology and to assess the potential use of computing and networking in pursuit of knowledge or improved efficiency. Broadcast email is permitted providing the individual is a recognized member of a Kemptville Campus sanctioned committee, club or council. You can browse the campus's WEB page for a list of these recognized committees.
The following are examples of unacceptable uses of the facilities:
- lending your account to others, e.g. friends, spouses or dependents
- accessing another user's account
- seeking information on passwords or data belonging to another user
- making unauthorized copies of proprietary software, offering unauthorized copies of proprietary software to others, loading or installing unlicensed software, loading or installing gaming, chatting or any other software on school computers including computer labs and library computers without permission
- downloading or installing pornographic, racist or other inappropriate material on college computers
- copying someone else's files, or programs, or examining such information unless authorized by the owner
- attempting to circumvent computer security methods or operating systems
- using the University's computer accounts for commercial purposes such as promoting by broadcast non-educational profit-driven products or services. Fund raising and advertizing require special authorization by the Director
- intercepting or examining the content of messages or files in transit on a network
- interfering with the work of other users of a network or with their host systems, seriously disrupting the network. Items such as: chain letters, junk mail, mass mailing, downloading large files or large volumes of files such as music or gaming files during regular business hours, extraneous mail, or engaging in any uses that result in the loss of another user's files or system
- uses that are found to be malicious, harmful, obscene, offensive, inappropriate or unethical, this includes but is not limited to the use of vulgar or offensive language- any uses that violate any other University of Guelph policy or code
- any uses that violate federal, provincial or municipal laws or regulations.
In using facilities to access other computer sites or other network-based systems (LANs, internet, CA*netII, etc.), an individual is expected to follow the Acceptable Use Policies as applicable to those facilities. Copies of these policies are available from Kemptville College IT Services. Access to external networks (e.g. ONET) requires a valid user-id and password, or access from a privately owned, single user workstation.
Each individual is responsible for keeping his or her account password confidential. It is strongly recommended that account holders change their password(s) on a regular basis.
Complaint and Violation Resolution Process:
May include loss of computer account including network and email account and also possible further legal action may be applicable depending on the nature of the incident. Violations to be dealt with by the director of the Kemptville Campus and/or respective designated authorities.
